As a huge fan of peyote stitch, I've recently become enamored with creating images in tapestries. After many years of putting off this particular project for fear that I wouldn't do it justice, I finally decided to just do it. It took far more beads than I ever imagined (thank heavens for bulk discounts!), and more time than I care to admit. But finally after all these years, I have my own Mulberry Tree to grace my living room wall.

Date Completed:

CONTEST Item #:

The project started with the idea of having an inside garden. I found this great basket with a hollow center at a near by craft store. I filled the center with Styrofoam and than covered it with moss. Each rose consists of 25 petals using the Victorian style of flower making. The ribbons that divide the rose garden are made from all five rose colors using the square stitch. I than used a different color of moss on the outer edge of the basket and finished it off by placing a wire ribbon bow in each corner. It makes a great center piece for my dining room table.

Stitch

I recently discovered french beaded flowers and wanted to share this. I made this wreath for my brother and his new wife using a bow from their wedding and my own enginuity for the flowers themselves. It has all the elements: something blue(blue beads), something borrowed(the bow), something new(the grapevine wreath), and something old(some beads are very old). I hope they enjoy!

WHATEVER WILL BE WILL BE....

ALMOST A URN, NOT QUITE!
This piece just evolved. I covered this wooden form in two drop peyote. I started at the widest point, and then would drop down to one drop peyote when I had to decrease.

I used a large crystal on the top, and embezzeled the crystal.

I then took out all my different crystals in sizes 3mm-5mm, as well as flower beads, and basically what I had in my stash. I proceeded to stitch them in a spiral fashion, from the bottom to the top. I kept adding different beads until it looked interesting. Next I added a periwinkle size 11 around the top and bottom edges of the embellishment, which really made it pop.

Once finished, it was almost too top heavy. I then found a wooden base, and attached a dowel to the base. I peyoted around the base up to the dowel, and then sat the form unto the base.

This was probably my only piece I have ever done that was totally freeform, as I am not a freeform type of a beader. To say the least, this was lots of fun. When I was working this, I kept saying, WHATEVER WILL BE WILL BE!

Stitch

 One and two drop peyote.

Beads Used

Japanese 11, crystals, size 8 japanese beads, various decorative beads ranging from 3mm to 5mm.

Approx Finished Size

5.5 tall. Base is 3" wide. Top part is 2" wide
