The Victorians
had a custom of making jewelry that incorporated the birthstones of
a person's loved ones to keep them symbolically close to themselves.
I made this bracelet for my mother for that purpose. The cab in the
middle has the Japanese ideogram for the word "Mother". The
gemstones handsewn to a clear seed bead peyote base are stones that
represent my mother and her children. My Mother: Ruby (July),
myself: Bloodstone (March), my husband: Turquoise (December), my
brother: Quartz Crystal (Instead of Diamonds, for April), and my
other brother: Pearl (June). The timelessness of this bracelet are
the symbols of a mother's love for her children. A love that never
dies.
